Garudasana – The Eagle Pose

Introduction
In Sanskrit, Garud means ‘Eagle’. When this asana is performed, the body looks like the shape of an eagle. Hence, the name Garudasana.
How to perform Garudasana?

Stand at the centre of your yoga mat.
Raise the left leg and like a creeper, take the left leg round the right leg from the front of the body.
The left thigh should cross the right thigh.
Similarly, bring the left arm around the right arm, like a creeper.
The palms of the hands should touch each other.
Hold on to the pose for few seconds and return to the original position.
Repeat the same asana with other leg.
Benefits of Garudasana
It helps to strengthen the nerves and bones of the legs and hands.
The asana also helps in curing sciatica and rheumatism of the legs and hands.
It nourishes and develops the bones of vertebral column.
Garudasana helps to cure hydrocele and swelling of testicles.
It helps to build the calf muscles.
Who should avoid practicing Garudasana
People who suffer from any injuries on knee, ankle or elbow should avoid practicing Garundasana.
